Congratulation to Darius Laws, who held the seat of Rural North with nearly 65 per cent of the electors vote (Gazette, May 10, “Coalition maintains its grip on Town Hall”).
However, I temper this achievement with the dull and lacklustre overall performance of the Colchester Conservatives, who once again failed to take overall charge, despite the cock-a-hoop gains in other districts.
The Tories had a poor election.
It comes with no surprise as they are so absent from everyday Colchester life and with little bite in their political actions, almost as dull as Sir Keir Rodney Starmer.
I urge that the leadership of the Colchester Tories and their fellow ward representatives to wake up and smell the coffee, before their position becomes irretrievable and support fades away, especially as it strikes me that a number are too comfortable in their position and take Tory voters for granted.
Meanwhile, I trust Darius as a Rural North Ward representative gets in there with his big boots and shows his party partners the way forward.
I suppose I now will have to look forward to yet another four years of Dave Harris being pictured looking into potholes every other week.
