St John's Street in Colchester closed after sinkhole appears

St John's Street has been closed this afternoon due to the road defect. 

Buses are currently being diverted via Southway and then continuing through to Head Gate.

#Colchester Due to St John's Street being closed for work on a sinkhole, all services that serve St John's Street will be diverting Via Southway then picking up their normal lines of route from Head Gate. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Drivers should avoid the area if possible this afternoon. 

First Essex says the road is closed due to a "burst water main" and its services will also be diverted.

There are long delays in St John's Street, which is a major part of town centre bus routes.
