TWO Colchester charities are joining forces to support a popular cycling event.

Re-Cycle Bikes to Africa and Mid and North-East Essex Mind are asking cyclists to sign up and take part in the iconic castle event on July 24.

The event starts in Castle Park and riders have the option of three routes - either 25, 50 or 75 miles, which takes them along quiet country lanes and through picturesque villages in north Essex.

Both charities have seen a decrease in fundraising activities due to the pandemic and have therefore secured places for this annual cycling event.

Riders are asked to raise sponsorship for either charity or they could choose to support both.

Re-Cycle fundraising and marketing manager Lindsay Hurrell said: “Over the past year it’s been hard to raise funds and this is a way for both charities to raise funds and awareness of how the humble bicycle can help change people’s lives.”

Julie Arthur, marketing and fundraising manager for Mid and North-East Essex Mind, added: “We’re delighted to be collaborating with another local charity.

"The links between mental health and physical activity are well known and so it makes sense that we joined forces to raise awareness.”
