A PERSONAL trainer plans to summon all his “grit and willpower” to complete ten triathlons in as many days and raise money for a charity close to his heart.
Tommy Reid is taking on the lung-busting challenge for Whizz-Kidz, which aims to transform the lives of disabled children by providing the equipment, support and life skills they need to develop their full potential.
Although he is only 18, the super fit trainer is aiming to complete a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run every day from June 17 to 26.
He admits the challenge will push him to the limit, but is also excited to see what he can achieve.
Mr Reid, who lives in Highwoods, Colchester, said: “I’ve never taken part in a triathlon before, but want to raise as much as possible for the tremendous charity that is Whizz-Kidz.
“It’s been instrumental in the life of my younger cousin Robyn, who gained access to an electric wheelchair thanks to its amazing work.
“I’m feeling excited about the challenge and looking forward to pushing beyond my previous limits, both physical and mental.
“It will require all my grit and willpower, but it’s not about me.
“It’s about raising money and awareness for Whizz-Kidz, showing anything’s possible when you put your mind to it.”
Mr Reid, who studied at Colchester Institute, is a personal trainer as well as a member and coach at Colchester Amateur Boxing Club.
He says he is grateful to sponsors Powell’s Roofing, Optimum Printing and Combat Institute for their support.
As part of his preparations, Mr Reid recently completed the Colchester Zoo 10km Stampede, finishing in just 42 minutes and 38 seconds.
