DAREDEVIL midwives will be taking part in a skydive in a bid to raise cash for a stillbirth and neonatal death charity.
The midwives, who are all members of the Coastal Birthing Unit based at Clacton and Harwich hospitals, will be leaping from a aeroplane after taking off at Beccles Airfield in August.
They hope to raise £2,000 for the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (Sands).
Kerri Nicoll, who is a community midwife based at the Clacton unit, will be taking part in the skydive alongside midwifery colleagues Claire James and Sinead Okongwu, healthcare assistant Michaela Hodgson and administrator Tania Martin.
She added: “We all share an incredibly privileged position in joining women and their families in what can be one of the most exciting and joyful time in their lives, however, not every baby comes home and some parents are left with empty arms.
“The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society is the leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity in the UK.
“It exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the best possible care and support for as long as they need it.
“Just £20 will provide a family with a free memory box so that every bereaved family is able to create their own precious memories of their baby.
“To show our support for this incredible charity, we have decided to quite literally take a leap of faith and throw ourselves out of a perfectly good plane.”
