I thought we were living in an age of progress, increasing enlightenment and greater equality. It would seem that I was sadly mistaken.
I was shocked, horrified and incensed by reports of a “toxic rape culture” at Colchester Royal Grammar School.
All pupils should be safe in their school environment. All acts of bullying, harassment, abuse, sexual assault and rape are totally unacceptable and the perpetrators should be identified and dealt with appropriately.
The shocking allegations made by Scarlett Mansfield and the other two hundred female pupils provide the strongest argument yet for single-sex education.
It is high time that we should condemn this appalling behaviour and take action. Vote with your feet. If I had a teenage daughter I would not let her enter the sixth form at CRGS.
In the 21st century we should not have to keep reiterating the fact that young girls and women are not objects for the sexual gratification of men. Girls and women have feelings and they deserve to be respected, cherished and protected.
The safety and well-being of pupils of all ages is of paramount importance. Everyone should be up in arms and outraged by these allegations. I know I am.
