A MAN is still fighting for his life in hospital following a serious crash at the weekend.
A driver of a van was rushed to Colchester Hospital in a life-threatening condition after a smash at the junction of Mersea Road and Berechurch Road.
The man, aged in his 40s, had fallen ill behind the wheel before colliding with another vehicle on Saturday at about 8pm.
The East of England Ambulance Service sent an ambulance, rapid response car and a hazardous area response team vehicle to the scene.
There were no injuries reported in the vehicle the van was in the crash with.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the van driver remains in a life-threatening condition in hospital.

She added: "We are progressing our investigation into the incident and we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage of it to call us on 101 citing incident 1223 of yesterday, June 5."
