PLANS to turn a former military site near Colchester town centre into 33 new homes have been approved.
Peabody Developments Limited has received planning permission from Colchester Council to turn an old Victorian section of the garrison, in Butt Road, into the new homes.
The development will be a mix of one, two and three-bed houses and flats.
There will be six flats, 20 houses and seven duplexes built across eight buildings, including both terraced and semi-detached homes.
Most of the old military buildings on the site have already been demolished, however two 19th century garrison buildings will be incorporated into the layout.

A planning report states: "The proposals will be a new high-quality residential environment, where people will want to live and visit.
"The proposals aim to make a significant contribution to the surrounding community through the opening-up of the site that will benefit local residents by enhancing the quality of the public realm."
