AN award-winning Colchester pub is set to be revamped after planning permission was approved.
Mark Hanrahan, owner of the New Inn, in Chapel Road South, has received permission for a renovation of the premises.
Plans will see the disused outside smoking area adapted so it is combined with the function room, providing extra space for diners inside the pub.
A planning statement submitted to the council said the New Inn was "at real risk of closure" unless the owners could "find a way to unlock it’s potential".
Two residents spoke out in support of the plans, which have now been rubber stamped by council planning officers.

The New Inn won Colchester Camra's pub the year in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and Essex Camra's pub of the year in 2017 and 2019.
Similar plans for the pub were approved back in 2017.
