A GROUP of travellers which pitched up on a field in Castle Park will be moved on "as soon as possible", Colchester Council has said.
The group of at least six caravans arrived on land at Kings Meadow, in the lower section of the park, on Thursday evening.
A spokesman for Colchester Council said Essex Police and the Essex Countywide Traveller Unit had already visited the site.

He said: "We are aware of an unauthorised encampment of six caravans, which has set up on Kings Meadow, in Lower Castle Park. The police have been informed and the Essex Countywide Traveller Unit (ECTU) has already visited the site.
“We will continue to assess the situation, along with the police and ECTU, in order to move the travellers on as soon as possible.
“If the police decide not to impose a Section 61 notice or the travellers do not depart the area when issued a notice to leave by ECTU, we will need to go through the courts to ensure their removal.
"If we must apply for a court order, the procedure will take between 7-10 days.”
Another group of travellers arrived at Colchester Rugby Club, in Mill Road, last Friday.
It was the second time in six weeks travellers had pitched up on the popular sports field.
