Food hygiene ratings have been revealed for pubs, cafes and hotels across Colchester.
Here are the ratings based on latest inspections by hygiene teams and correct as of June 16.
What do the numbers mean?
- 0 - urgent improvement necessary
- 1 - major improvements necessary
- 2 - improvements necessary
- 3 - business generally satisfactory
- 4 - business good on assessment
- 5 - business seen as very good
Each restaurant is also judged on three categories ‘food hygiene and safety’, ‘structural compliance’ and ‘confidence in management’.
Each section is awarded a mark from ‘very good’ to ‘very bad’ and for ‘confidence in management’ from ‘high’ to ‘no confidence’.
The Ship Inn, Tiptree
The pub was rated five and inspectors found food hygiene and safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all good.
Centurion, North Hill
The pub was also handed a five rating. Food hygiene and safety and structural compliance was found to be very good while confidence in management was good.
The Layer Fox
Inspectors rating the venue five. Food hygiene and safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all good.
The Purple Dog, Eld Lane
The pub was handed a five rating. Food hygiene and safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all good.
Red Lion Hotel, High Street
The hotel was given a five rating. Food hygiene and safety, structural compliance and confidence in management were all good.
