AN aspiring film director has made the cut for her ghoulish script to be performed at Colchester Fringe.

Jaz Skingle, who is from Colchester, has scripted her first hit comedy play which has received rave reviews by the team at Colchester Fringe.

The 17-year-old drafted a comedy script called ‘Ghost Therapy’ and the plot focuses around the life of Dr Soul, a counsellor supporting dead clients through their troubling non-existence.

The talented writer was lucky enough to have esteemed writer, Richard Dinnick, and British Theatre reviewer, Dr Paul T Davies provide feedback and advice.

Ghost Therapy explores the ghost world, and more importantly ghost problems, all from the view of ghost therapist, Dr Soul.

Jaz attends Edinburgh Fringe Festival every year and came up with the beginnings of the tale while discussing plot ideas with her friend, Emilia.

The concept of a ghost world was born and Jaz fleshed out the characters, before crafting a final draft of Ghost Therapy which she went on to submit to the Fringe Network.

Jaz, who attends the Royal Hospital School, in Suffolk, said: “I am honestly ecstatic, and even that can’t describe how I truly feel.

"I am really proud of myself, as it was my first theatre script so to have it commissioned is such a confidence-booster and an honour.

"I am also so thankful to be able to first showcase it at the Colchester Fringe, as it is my hometown. All the people within the Fringe group are so lovely, really emphasising their love for the arts.

“I hope to bring the play to Edinburgh Fringe next summer as well, as that is what inspired me to write Ghost Therapy in the first place. Although I want to see this story go far, I am now already thinking about the next story to tell in order to develop and continue my skills as a writer.”

The Colchester Fringe Festival is a four-day festival set to take place in October.

The festival will showcase local, national and international talent at a variety of venues within Colchester Town Centre.

Cameron Abbott-Betts, co-director of Colchester Fringe, said: "As Colchester Fringe grows as an organisation, we are hoping to have lots of development opportunities for young people within the festival.

"Where better to start with Jaz, who is an extremely talented young person who has a clear love for all things 'Fringe'. So, we cannot wait to help Jaz stage her work at our festival.”
