ALMOST all of Colchester is now included on the Government's Covid hotspots map, according to the latest figures.

The map, produced using Government data, shows the number of cases in each area in the week to June 19.

It is colour coded by infection rate.

The highest number of cases during this week was seen in Greenstead, where 16 were recorded.

Wivenhoe and University was second with 15, followed by Parson's Heath and New Town and Hythe, which both recorded 13 cases.

All but two neighbourhoods in the town now feature on the map.

The two areas not included are West Bergholt and Wormingford and Horkesley Heath, Langham and Dedham.

Each of these two areas recorded less than three cases in this week, meaning the virus is classed as "suppressed" in these parts of the borough.

  • Layer-de-la-Haye, Abberton & Mersea East - three
  • Horkesley Heath, Langham & Dedham - less than three
  • West Bergholt & Wormingford - less than three

Colchester's average Covid infection rate is now 78.6 cases per 100,000 people.

This is because there were 153 cases confirmed in the borough in the week to June 20.

The average infection rate has increased from 52.9 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier.

Tendring's average infection rate is now 20.5 cases per 100,000 people.
