A PRIMARY school has closed early for all but one of its year groups due to a Covid cases amongst pupils.
North Primary School, in John Harper Street, Colchester, has sent all year groups except year six home for the remainder of the summer term.
The decision was made due to rising Covid cases amongst the community and a number of staff being told to isolate by Track and Trace.
Headteacher Alan Garnett said: "We had to send two classes home on Thursday because of positive cases amongst pupils.
"Growing numbers of staff are having to self-isolate because of Track and Trace and growing numbers of families are isolating because of positive cases.
"We have been desperately trying to get through to the end of the school year without impacting on families' holidays, but with the rapid increase in the number of infections across the Colchester area it seemed to be the prudent option to finish the term early.
"Home learning will be available for pupils next week."
