COLCHESTER United legend Karl Duguid is back in coaching.

The popular former Uโ€™s skipper, who racked up more than 450 appearances for the club during his two spells with them, has taken over as Stanway Rovers' new assistant manager.

Duguid, who won promotion with Colchester in both 1998 and 2006 and also had a spell at Stanway as a player and assistant manager to Kem Izzet, has returned to the Hawthorns as Danny Slatter's number two.

The 43-year-old enjoyed a superb professional playing career, helping Colchester achieve the highest-ever finish in their history back in 2007.

He has been coaching and holding one-to-one sessions for a number of years following his last professional game for Colchester in May, 2014.

Duguid had previously been assistant manager at Pitching In Isthmian League division north side Heybridge Swifts, prior to leaving the role last month.

He had also prior to that been manager of Swifts, leading them to a fourth-place finish in Isthmian League division north prior to the 2019-20 season, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Duguid had spent two seasons at Scraley Road, having worked as Julian Dicks' number two prior to taking over in the hot seat.

Stanway, who are preparing for the new Essex Senior League season, take on Whitton United in a pre-season friendly today.

The game takes place at King George V Playing Field, kick-off 3pm.
