ONE part of Colchester now has a Covid infection rate above 1,000 cases per 100,000 people and almost double the Essex average.
Infection rates across the borough are rising, with 13 out of 20 neighbourhoods now having a rate above 400 cases per 100,000 people.
Abbey Field in the town, around Colchester Garrison, has the highest infection rate - of 1,054.8 cases per 100,000 people.
The area recorded 83 cases in the week to July 16.
During this week, 970 cases of coronavirus were recorded across the borough - an increase of 56.2 per cent compared with a week earlier.
The average infection rate was 498.2 cases per 100,000 people.
Essex's average infection rate was 533.1 cases per 100,000 people during this week.

- Old Heath & Rowhedge - 468.0 cases per 100,000 people
- Prettygate & Westlands - 464.9 cases per 100,000 people
- Parson's Heath - 459.0 cases per 100,000 people
- Horkesley Heath, Langham & Dedham - 433.6 cases per 100,000 people
- Layer-de-la-Haye, Abberton & Mersea East - 393.3 cases per 100,000 people
- Wivenhoe & University - 374.7 cases per 100,000 people
- West Mersea - 329.4 cases per 100,000 people
- Greenstead - 309.1 cases per 100,000 people

Data for the most recent four days is excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.
Of the 315 local areas in England, 311, or 99 per cent, saw a week-on-week rise in rates and just four, one per cent, saw a fall.
