A NEW lounge and cocktail bar where DJs will spin 90s classics on the dancefloor is opening in Colchester town centre.
The Bubble Lounge will open its doors for the first time on Friday in Crouch Street.
The man behind the plans is events manager and radio DJ Jeremy Durrant, who also owns nearby retro-themed Rubix nightclub.
Revellers can enjoy two-for-one entry into both venues during a night out with a new “party pass” being created especially.
Mr Durrant, 47, said: “It has been so sad seeing Colchester shut up for so long and we wanted to come back with a bang and offer something different to give the nightlife of Colchester a boost.
“A lot of premises have closed during the pandemic and it is nice to bring new life to the nighttime economy.
“Everyone needs a night out at the moment.”
The Bubble Lounge, which is opening inside a former bar in Crouch Street, is aiming to attract a slightly different crowd than Rubix, a retro-themed nightclub which hosts seventies disco nights and eighties parties.
It will open at 5pm each evening offering cocktails for revellers to enjoy from its sofas or its outside terrace.
Mr Durrant said: “It is more of a lounge whereas Rubix is more of a nightclub.
“We wanted something a bit different so we are aiming for a bit of a younger audience with The Bubble Lounge.
“We are aiming to bring in the 20 somethings.
“The music will be nineties and noughties classics with the very best of modern chart stuff thrown in.”

The dancefloor will open at about 9pm each evening, with the bar serving customers until 2am at the weekends.
Mr Durrant has doubled his workforce in order to open the new venue, with a recruitment drive for the new premises ongoing.
He said there were stringent safety rules in place to help keep revellers safe during the pandemic and encouraged people to come along for the opening night.
“We are still very Covid conscious,” he said.
“There are hand sanitiser stations and we know people may still want to wear masks.”
He added: “To open Rubix I sold my house and to open The Bubble Lounge I sold my car.
“Every penny I have has gone into this because I want to make something special for Colchester.
“We have started marketing this week and people seem to be excited for us to open.”
The Bubble Lounge is the sponsor of this weekend’s Nearly Festival and will host the after official party.
