A FORMER famous page three model, and pop star, was the star attraction at a celebration marking 100 years of the Royal British Legion in Colchester.
Actress Samantha Fox, 55, opened the special event at Lion Walk Shopping Centre’s Summer Drinks Terrace on Sunday.
The day was part of a special programme of events taking place up and down the country throughout 2021 to mark the charity’s centenary, with Ms Fox kicking off festivities with a welcome speech.
This was followed by a performance from Colchester singer-songwriter Sarah Louise.
Limited edition Poppy cocktails were served in the venue’s bar, with proceeds raised supporting the charity, and food was on offer from The Bavarian Grill.
Veterans from Colchester and further afield were invited along to join in the fun.
Ms Fox said: “I feel so honoured to have been invited down to Colchester on Sunday to open the Royal British Legion’s centenary event for Essex.
“I am excited to speak to some of our veterans that have selflessly given so much to their country, and I am looking forward to meeting the fantastic Riders Branch and Win Brace’s granddaughter.
“The Royal British Legion does so much to support our Armed Forces communities, and I cannot wait to show my appreciation for the work they – and our Armed Forces – do.”
Mayor of Colchester Robert Davidson and the charity’s motorcycling group Royal British Legion Riders Branch also attended.

Other entertainment included fairground games, such as guessing the name of a teddy, a tombola, raffle and more.
Laura Gibbs, community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion in Colchester, said: “I am overwhelmed with the support and kindness from so many people at the event to celebrate 100 years of the Royal British Legion.
“To have Samantha Fox there supporting us made it extra special.
“It was great to raise awareness and bring the community together, I am so grateful to everyone involved who helped with the event.”
Martin Leatherdale, Lion Walk centre manager, said: “It was a brilliant turnout for what was a fantastic event.
“Sam Fox and Laura Gibbs hosted a fun-packed day, including making the Royal British Legion’s very own cocktail, with all proceeds going to the charity.
“It’s great that we can all get out again and support the fabulous work of these charities while still giving Covid-19 the due diligence it deserves.”
He added: “The Summer Drinks Terrace has been relaunched and will host live DJs every Friday and Saturday 7pm to 11pm.
“It’s an incredible atmosphere for everyone to enjoy, so come along and enjoy!”
