SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury's says hopes to provide residents with an update on its plans to create a new Colchester store soon.
The firm was granted planning permission to open inside B&Q, in Lightship Way, Hythe, in 2016.
It was set to take over the lease of the unit in 2019, however, the DIY firm signed a two-year extension.
B&Q has traded at the site ever since but with it set to move to its new home at Stane Retail Park in October, the building will finally empty.
Sainsbury's said it hoped to be able to update residents on the long-awaited new store soon.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: "At this time, there is no update on our plans to invest in the site at Lightship Way but we hope to be able to provide some further information soon."
