ANIMAL lovers are being given the chance to see their favourite species after dark at the return of Colchester Zoo's Starlight Safari.
Many of the zoo's species are nocturnal and behave differently at night.
And so every year the zoo keeps its gates open until 9.30pm on a late summer evening so visitors can enjoy a totally different experience at the attraction.
A spokesman for the zoo said: "As the temperature drops and the senses sharpen you will have the chance to see some of our animals in a whole new light, as some bed down for the evening whilst for others the night is just beginning.
"If it’s your appetite that needs satisfying, you can always stop by Penguini’s with other outlets also available.
"Do bring a torch with you for extended opening events."

Although animal viewing cannot be guaranteed after dark there are special experiences which take place during the event.
The full timetable will be announced soon.
Some areas of the zoo will be closed from 6pm including Chimpanzee Lookout.
The Starlight Safari takes place on Saturday, September 25.
