TESCO has applied for a licence to sell alcohol from its planned new store in Colchester High Street.
The supermarket giant has submitted plans to revamp the former Mountain Warehouse unit, in High Street, creating one of its popular Express stores.
Planning applications to install new signage, a ventilation system and create a new store front are awaiting approval.
Tesco has now also submitted a licence application for the new store.
It would be allow the firm to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises between 6am and midnight every day.
The licence would also allow it to provide "late night refreshments" from 11pm to midnight each evening.

Colchester Council will have the final decision on the licence and planning applications.
