A COLCHESTER pub is in with a chance of being named amongst the best in Britain.
The Alma, in School Road, Copford, is up for a Great British Pub Award in the Greene King Pub of the Year category.
The awards, organised by The Morning Advertiser, recognise the best pubs in the industry across the country.
Hundreds of pubs entered and were put through two rounds of "rigorous" judging before making the final shortlist.
Over the next few weeks the pubs will be visited by judges before the winners of the awards are announced.
After making the final shortlist, The Alma posted on its Facebook page.
It said: "Blimey! We are feeling a little overwhelmed as we have been named a finalist at this year's Great British Pub Awards in the Best Greene King Pub category.
"After the year that all pubs have had it feels like a really fantastic honour.
"It is also a brilliant reflection on our staff and also you, our lovely customers for supporting us since we took the helm in October 2019.
"We are still digesting this news and we will most definitely be planning some celebrations.
"There are some truly amazing pubs on the shortlist and we are humbled to be in such great company.
"Watch this space to see how you can help us celebrate."
