THE mayor of Colchester is to miss a highlight in the town’s calendar after contracting Covid-19.

Robert Davidson became the borough’s 188th mayor in October last year with his wife, Liz, as the mayoress.

However, due to Government self-isolation rules, Mr Davidson will be unable to carry out his duties and attend the exciting Women’s Tour on Friday.

A spokesman for Colchester Council said: “We can confirm that the mayor has Covid and is recovering.

“The deputy mayor will stand in at the Women’s Tour event on Friday, but this is the only upcoming engagement the mayor will miss.”

A farmer and former Conservative group leader on the council, Mr Davidson represents Mersea and Pyefleet, has become the borough’s 188th mayor with his wife, Liz, as the mayoress.

He will serve as mayor for 18 months, with Tim Young as deputy.
