A MAN has been handed a hefty fine after admitting a series of offences while riding a hired e-scooter.
Matthew Johnston, of Merville Barracks’ Pegasus Camp, in Colchester, pleaded guilty to driving a Spin electric scooter in High Street, Colchester while above the legal alcohol limit.
The 25-year-old had 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when breathalysed by police officers on September 25 – the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
Johnston also admitted failing to stop the vehicle when asked to do so by a uniformed police officer in High Street.
Furthermore, he pleaded guilty to driving the e-scooter while disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence.
Johnston was handed a further 40-month driving ban and £1,095 in fines, surcharge and costs.
