Police have released a CCTV image showing a man armed with a crossbow which he used to shoot another man.

Last week Delroy Mairah was jailed for more than three years for the chilling attack.

Mairah had shot the man in a car park in Thomas Court, in Colchester, after falsely accusing him of sleeping with his partner.

The incident happened at 6.30pm on Saturday September 11.

At the time, his victim was standing outside in the car park having a cigarette with a friend when Mairah approached him carrying a crossbow in his right hand and an axe in his left hand.

The 40-year-old then launched an unprovoked attack on the victim and shot a crossbow bolt at him.

His victim then fled to nearby East Street in order to get away from Mairah.

Emergency services were then called to the scene. The victim was treated for his injuries but Mairah had left the area.

A day later, officers executed a warrant at Mairah’s home address in East Street, Colchester.

He was not present but a number of air weapons, a sword, an empty box for a crossbow, crossbow bolts and a target were recovered and seized.

The footage showed him leaving the area.

On September 12, Mairah was arrested.

He was subsequently charged with ABH, possession of a bladed article and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He admitted all charges when he appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday November 4 and was sentenced to a total of three years and four months in jail for all counts.

The investigation was led by Detective Constable Amber Martin-Brett, of Colchester CID.

She said: “This violent incident took place in a public place and understandably caused shock and concern within our community.

“But thanks to diligent work of our officers, we were able to identify Mairah as the man responsible for it, track him down and arrest him.

“The weight of evidence against him meant he had no option but to admit the charges levelled against him and he has been handed a sentence which reflects his actions.”
