TRIBUTES have been paid to a “simple man with a big heart” after he was involved in what tragically turned out to be a fatal road crash.

Vadims Jevstafjevs, 37, was cycling in Northern Approach Road, Colchester, near to the junction with Bruff Close, at about 7pm on October 15.

The beloved family man, who clearly had a penchant for dogs, sustained injuries after his bike and a white Mercedes collided and died shortly after being taken to hospital.

In a touching statement released in the wake of his death, Mr Jevstafjevs’ devastated cousin paid tribute.

He said: “Vadims was a simple man with a big heart. A true friend who always looked on the positive side of life and when things were tough he never gave up.

“He was like a big brother to me and he took such pride in looking after his family.

“Vadims you have left footprints on our hearts, things will never be the same for us without you, we miss you so much and hold dearly our memories of you."
