Moon and Starfish
Where: 1 Marine Parade East, Clacton-on-Sea CO15 1PT
TripAdvisor rating: 3.5/5
There are plenty of Wetherspoons pubs in Essex that have a 3.5/5 overall rating, but none have done it with the number of ratings the Moon and Starfish in Clacton have managed.
They've managed to keep that score from 826 ratings, 246 of which were 'excellent'.
Praise has come in for their quick service, "fabulous" drinks and "reasonably priced" food.
The Playhouse
Where: 4 St. Johns Street, Colchester CO2 7AA
TripAdvisor rating: 3.5/5
The Playhouse in Colchester get second place here, having also manahed a 3.5/5 rating, but from a slightly smaller margin of reviews at 361.
In total 99 of those were 'excellent' with commendation coming in for the friendly service and fast ordering times.
Rose & Crown
Where: 109 High Street, Maldon CM9 5EP
TripAdvisor rating: 3.5/5
Third place is awarded to the Rose & Crown in Maldon, which like first and second place recieved a 3.5/5 overall ratings.
This came from 311 reviews, with it having similar points of praise like the other two previously mentioned pubs.
Positive aspects mentioned often included the "great value" for money, professional staff and satisfying food.
What are the worst rated Wetherspoons in Essex?
The Dairyman
Where: 16-18 High Street, Brentwood CM14 4AB
TripAdvisor rating: 3/5
Now we have the other end of the scale with The Dairyman in Brentwood being on the lower end of those Wetherspoons with an average rating of 3/5.
In total 44 of their 203 reviews were considered 'terrible' with "poor" customer service being mentioned as a negative.
Some of the food coming out being "lukewarm" also didn't help its case.
The Picture Palace
Where: 7A Fairfield Road, Braintree CM7 3HA
TripAdvisor rating: 3/5
The Picture Palace in Braintree is on the site of a former cinema, and it has not exactly proved to be a box office hit with its reviewers.
A overall 3/5 rating based on 145 reviews means its comes second bottom of the Essex Wetherspoons, with 32 of those being classed as 'terrible'.
"Rude" staff were mentioned in one review trying to hurry up an individual on eating their food, whilst another claimed their food was "undercooked".
However, its most recent review said it had one of the "best breakfasts in the area".
The Moon on the Square
Where: 1-15 Market Square, Basildon SS14 1DF
TripAdvisor rating: 2.5/5
Finally we come to The Moon on the Square in Basildon, which is the only Wetherspoons pub in the county to fall below a 3/5 rating.
In total 49 of its 162 reviews were classed as 'terrible' with one saying that hygiene was a "huge problem" there.
Ineffective customer service was also highlighted in several of the write-ups.
