DETECTIVES probing the death of a two-year-old child have questioned a man and a woman on suspicion of manslaughter and neglect.
Essex Police have exclusively confirmed to the Gazette how the force received a callout to the Tollgate Road area in Stanway on the morning of Sunday, November 7.
When officers arrived they found a two-year-old child was unresponsive.
A spokesman said: “We received a call from colleagues in the ambulance service at about 8.13am on Sunday, November 7.
“We arrived and found a child unresponsive.
“Sadly, the two-year old died.
“We are working to establish the facts and a forensic post-mortem examination will be carried out.”
Police confirmed a 40-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of child neglect and manslaughter.
They were released on bail until tomorrow.
The spokesman added: “There is no further risk to the wider community.”
