The A120 is shut in both directions after a serious crash involving two vehicles.

The road is closed to traffic between the B1035 Horsley Cross and B1352 Ramsey Road after a collision this morning.

Essex Police, East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Fire Service are on the scene.

Traffic is being diverted through Ramsey where the narrow road passes 17th century listed homes.

One resident said: "The A120 is closed and traffic is being diverted through the village.

"There have been huge lorries coming through including a low loader with a mobile home in the back.

"Residents have had to move their cars so it can squeeze through."

Traffic remains slow, with the accident reportedly involving a car, a van and a spillage.

The stretch of A120 is expected to remain closed for several hours while police investigate.

A police spokesman said: "We are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A120 near Harwich.

"Our officers were called shortly after 6.45am this morning, Saturday 11 December, to reports of a collision involving a van and a car.

"The road is closed in both directions between Wix Road and the Ramsey roundabout, at the B1352 Main Road.

"The road is likely to remain shut for several hours and drivers are advised to avoid the area.

"Witnesses to the collision should please call our Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101, citing incident 308 of December 11."
