PLANS to build 100 homes in Great Horkesley have been submitted to Colchester Council.
David Wilson Homes is seeking to build the homes on land east of Nayland Road, as well as a Scout and Girl Guiding building for the community.
The proposal will also see land allocated for allotments and crossing points installed on the A143, as well as various associated parking and landscaping.
Last April, Colchester Council granted outline planning permission for the developer to build 80 homes, however new proposals now seek to increase this to 100.
Thirty of these houses will be made affordable by the developer, in line with council policy.
David Wilson Homes says the increase is to make a “better and more efficient use” of the application site.
Great Horkesley is identified as a “sustainable settlement” in Colchester’s emerging Local Plan, and is therefore deemed suitable to accommodate further growth by council bosses.
If built, trees at the northern end of Nayland Road will be knocked down in order to enable a T-junction to be installed for access to the estate.
A three metre wide shared footpath-cycle route will also travel through the site between Nayland Road and Ivy Lodge Road.
Furthermore, a tiger crossing – separate zebra and cycle crossings – will be put in place at the southern end of Nayland Road.
To slow traffic, raised tables and ramped narrows will also be scattered around the proposal to further reduce speeds and protect pedestrians.
A Scout hut is also included in the proposal, which would “ideally have an outdoor area for small, contained campfires and enough space for other games”.
Following a meeting with Great Horkesley Parish Council, a spokesman for David Wilson Homes said the discussions were “constructive”.
They added: “The main concerns from the councillors were surrounding the traffic along the surrounding roads, but also how residents would be able to safely cross the road and walk to the local amenities.”
Colchester Council has the final say.
