TWO young scooter prodigies rounded off 2021 in scintillating fashion after they put in an excellent showing at the UK Championships.
Brothers Austin and TJ Terry, who are six and eight years old respectively, put in stellar performances at Scoot GB, the national championships for competitive scooter riders.
It completes a busy year for the two pupils of Myland Primary School in Colchester, who often have to travel several hours with their dad, Tom Terry, to prepare for competitions.
Their performances came after they qualified from the preliminary stages in Sutton-in-Ashfield before competing in the UK Finals in Corby.
Both Austin and TJ – who are sponsored by the Essex-based shop Scoot and Skate – competed in the intermediate category of the Under-8 age group, with older brother TJ bringing home a silver medal.

Competing against other riders two years his senior, Austin came sixth.
The boys’ father, who is a police officer, explained how proud he was of his sons’ performances.
He said: “TJ was absolutely amazed because he had worked really hard on the tricks and runs he wanted to do.
“He did a bit of a different run to the other boys competing, but he nailed all the tricks – he was hoping for a podium place, but he never expected to come second.”
Mr Terry said he was also encouraged by Austin’s achievements.
“Austin was really positive and rode the best he could, but he’s a bit behind the others being six years old,” he said.
“He’s really chuffed to be in the intermediate category and the best thing is he’s taken this all in his stride.
“It was quite late by the time we finished.
“As a treat, we always say if they do their best they will get something special – so they got one chocolate milkshake each, when they normally have to share.
“Everyone encourages each other and wants to succeed and do well – it’s a really nice atmosphere,” Mr Terry added.
