CONCERN is growing after a police cordon was put in place in a town centre street while officers conducted an investigation for several hours.
Two police cars were spotted bookending a section of Vineyard Street, in Colchester, at about 12pm on Saturday.
It is understood specialist officers took photographs of the scene, located near the junction with St Botolph’s Street.
The area remained taped off for at least a further three hours and access was restricted to members of the public.
It currently remains unknown what occurred in the road but the Gazette has contacted Essex Police for more information.
Sir Bob Russell, who spotted the police in the area, said: “There were tapes across the road at both points and nobody was allowed through.
“I am not sure what had occurred but I am assuming something really serious.”
