BAD neighbours have been kicked out of their property in Lexden after repeated warnings to improve their behaviour.

Officers from Essex Police attended the address in Lanvalley Road to serve them with a closure order following several complaints of “substantial” anti-social behaviour.

Alongside the force was Colchester Borough Homes, which said it was left with no option but to close the property having received the community’s support.

A spokesman for Colchester Borough Homes said: “Unfortunately, following complaints of antisocial behaviour at an address in Lanvalley Road and several warnings to desist, we were left with no option but to serve a closure order on the property and seek a possession order on behalf of the community and with their broad support.

“We take complaints of antisocial behaviour very seriously and will always work with the police to safeguard neighbourhoods.

“This action shows we are committed to supporting safer communities and improving the quality of life of all residents.”

An Essex Police spokesman confirmed the force attended the scene to assist Colchester Borough Homes.

They added: “Working with partners from Colchester Borough Homes we have assisted in delivering a closure order on a property whereby a substantial amount of anti-social behaviour was effecting the community.

“The property is now closed and can no longer be used to help reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.”

The action follows another property being served a closure order at an address in Maidenburgh Street, in Colchester’s town centre, following complaints of anti-social behaviour in October last year.

A spokesman for Essex Police’s Colchester community policing team at the time said officers assisted in securing the order.

It followed an application which was granted at Colchester Magistrates’ Court after police said the property had become a centre for anti-social behaviour.

They added: “One of our force priorities is to crack down on anti-social behaviour.

“We often work with partner agencies to decide the best agency placed to deal with such matters and how we can work together to resolve the problems.

“A closure order gives the police and the local authority the power to prosecute anybody in breach of the order.”
