A REFEREE was reportedly attacked and threatened after sending off a player during an amateur football match.
Essex Police have launched an investigation after a football official was assaulted on November 18 last year on a pitch near Sheepen Road, Colchester.
He had been refereeing a match involving a team called Netsix and Chill when a player committed a foul which he deemed worthy of a temporary sending off.
According to Essex Police, after being banished from the game a man attacked the referee and threatened him.
