FRANKIE Terry will return to Colchester United next week after linking up with Premier League giants Chelsea.

The 18-year-old defender - the nephew of Chelsea legend John Terry - has spent some time with the Blues on trial this week, according to reports.

Terry is on the reigning European champions' radar but the second-year scholar is still a Colchester player.

Colchester interim head coach Wayne Brown, who managed Terry during his loan spell at Maldon and Tiptree earlier this season, said: "Frankie is still a Colchester player.

"He's got a real chance with us.

"He's our player and we're trying to do the best by the kid and by us.

"He's a real good prospect and it's all about his development, at the end of the day.

"He'll be back with us next week."

Terry has been involved with Colchester's first team, this season.

He was an unused substitute for their 0-0 draw at Bradford City in League Two, last December.

Frankie had earlier linked up with the U's first-team squad for the first time in the final few weeks of last season, travelling with them to their game at Cheltenham Town.

The U's first-year scholar also featured regularly in the Professional Development League for the U's under-23s and under-18s, last season.

And this season, the former Notley High School pupil featured in Colchester's impressive FA Youth Cup run.

Frankie's father is Paul Terry, who made more than 150 appearances for Yeovil Town during his playing career and also played for the likes of Leyton Orient and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Paul is the older brother of former Chelsea and England defender John Terry, who is currently working at Premier League club Aston Villa as assistant head coach.

Frankie Terry is the son of Paul Terry and Sarah Konchesky, sister of ex-West Ham United defender Paul Konchesky.
