CHARITY shop staff are appealing to residents to think twice after vital donations were left outside in the rain.
Age UK is encouraging Tiptree residents to take part in a challenge to donate at least two bags of unwanted clothes to the charity this year.
However, villagers are reminded not to leave items outside of the charity’s Tiptree shop when it is closed, after bags of vital donations were left to get wet in the rain.
Catherine Stockdale-Ward, shop manager at the Age UK shop in Tiptree, said: “Our shops are reliant on donations to keep our shelves stocked and we are always grateful to the people of Tiptree for their generosity to the Age UK shop in Church Road.
“However, all items donated need to be of good quality so that we are able to sell them on to be loved again.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to sell items that are wet, soiled or damaged, so it’s really important that people don’t leave items outside when the shop is closed.
“Please make sure you bring your donations into the shop during opening hours, where our team of staff and volunteers will be on hand to collect them.”
After a difficult couple of years, the charity says it urgently needs to boost funds so it can continue its vital work supporting older people especially those who have been affected by the Covid pandemic.
“That’s why we are asking everyone to take part in the 2022 Challenge and donate at least two bags of unwanted, quality items to the Age UK shop in Tiptree to help us reach our target of 2.2 million bags by the end of this year,” Catherine added.
“As well as doing your bit for the environment by recycling items you no longer use, you’ll be helping Age UK.
“We’ll turn every bag into support for older people in the community and across the UK.
“Sadly many charity shops find themselves dealing with damaged or soiled items, which is a waste of time and can be unpleasant for staff and volunteers.
“Before donating any clothes please ensure they are clean and dry.”
