A SPECIAL event is giving residents a second chance to dance the night away and attend the prom of their dreams...all while raising money for a worthy cause.
The Harwich Angels group will be hosting a Prom Night in Kingsway Hall, in Dovercourt, on April 22 for anyone who missed out on their secondary school glam experience.
Andrea King, 50, who is part of the managing team, says there was no such thing as a prom in her days at school and is now excited for everyone like her to put their their glad rags on and have a night to remember.
The event is set to offer a unique prom experience with photographers, a sit down buffet, a red carpet and a photo booth.
The money raised will also support the Harwich-based Sponsor a Sibling, which helps the families of severely-sick children in the area.
The charity was launched in 2016 by Laura Rolph-Wills, of Grafton Road, Dovercourt, after her youngest son, Harry, was diagnosed with a rare form of Batten disease, resulting in him gradually losing his sight and mobility.
Harry tragically died in November at the age of 12 and Andrea is hoping the ball will be a heartfelt tribute to him.
Andrea said: “ I think it is what everybody needs after the past two years of battling Covid.
“It is just going to be brilliant and a way for people to let their hair down and dance the night away.
“We are hoping to have an auction on the night as well to help raise more money.”
Andrea’s daughter, who graduated two years ago, but missed out on her prom night because of the pandemic, will also be attending.
There are 120 tickets for the night, 45 of which have already been sold.
Andrea added: “We will have ten people at every table so you can either buy and individual ticket or a table.
“We will also have live music from Kio, a well know band, and a DJ.
“I cannot wait.”
Tickets cost £25 each and you must be 18 or over to attend.
