A WOMAN was hospitalised with a broken ankle and three other people were left injured after a car crash on a busy main road.
Police officers, paramedics and firefighters were called to an accident near the roundabout connecting Ipswich Road and St Andrew’s Avenue, in Colchester.
Upon arriving at the scene, shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, it was established two vehicles had been in a smash and the road was blocked.
Firefighters worked to clean up a fuel spill and first aid was administered to a woman in her 50s who had suffered a broken ankle before being taken hospital by 4:08pm.
Essex Police has now confirmed there were four causalities in total and it is believed one of the vehicles involved in the crash failed to stop at the scene.
A spokesman for the force said: "We need anyone who saw anything or has any CCTV, dash cam or doorbell footage to contact us.
