A highly-respected surgeon is to receive special recognition for his skills carrying out a complex surgical technique.
Based at Colchester Hospital, which is part of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Subash Vasudevan has become one of just a handful of consultants in the UK to become a proctor in the use of the Davinci Xi surgical robot in colorectal surgery.
As a proctor, Dr Vasudevan can now teach complex robotic surgery to fellow professionals.
It follows a string of procedures carried out by Dr Vasudevan, after which colon and bowel cancer patients made strong recoveries following the surgery.

Mr Vasudevan, who is also ESNEFT’s lead for innovation and chairman of the robotics steering group, said he was pleased to hold the position.
He said: “I am delighted to have become a proctor in this exciting area.
"This is excellent news for our patients as it means they will continue to benefit from the latest treatments delivered using state-of-the-art technology.
"I hope this proctorship will help to put ESNEFT on the map while strengthening our growing reputation for embracing innovation to further improve the care we provide to the population.”
