A PROJECT to get Roman mosaics in storage back out in the public eye has received funding.
Colchester Council has granted £15,000 to allow further work, including inspections, on mosaics which have been excavated.
It includes a focus on the Walking Lion mosaic which was first discovered in Colchester in 1972.
Archaeologists found the mosaic just beneath the surface outside the Boots store in Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

It was subsequently recreated, with the original given to Colchester museum, and the team worked from pictures and artist drawings.
Colchester Council’s heritage boss Darius Laws said: “The money will fund a specialist who will look at what we’ve got with a view to conserving, interpreting and potentially putting some back where they were found for residents to see.”
“I’m sure there are more to be found in Colchester as continuous urban regeneration continues.”
