Potholes have been a familiar gripe for residents and commuters since time immemorial.

But over the weekend, one famous Essex resident decided to take matters into his own hands.

Sir Rod Stewart, now 77, shared a video where he is filmed repairing dozens of potholes himself, alongside a team of workers.

He said: "I’m repairing the street where I live because nobody can be bothered to do it.”

“This is the state of the roads where we are here in Harlow, and it’s been like this for ages.

“People are bashing their cars up – the other day there was an ambulance here with a burst tyre, and my Ferrari can’t go through here at all.

“Me and the boys thought we would come here and do it ourselves.

“This is what we’re doing – we’re filling in holes while millions and millions of pounds is being spend on the M11.”

Lee Scott, cabinet member for highways maintenance at Essex County Council, said he would make sure the problem was solved as quickly as possible.
