A MAN has been arrested by police on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident which saw a man attacked with an axe.

Police were called at around 8.15pm on Saturday, March 19, to the Bell Hotel on Market Hill in Clare.

They had received reports a man had attacked a person with an axe.

The victim, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital having suffered a serious head injury.

Police say he remains in hospital in a stable condition.

A man, 39, was arrested on the morning of March 20 in Bury St Edmunds on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and was subsequently further arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police added: "A police cordon was in place while investigations took place, however, this has now been removed.

"While enquiries are at an early stage, police believe this is an isolated incident and are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.
