B&M's new Colchester store will open its doors to customers this weekend.

The new home store and garden centre will be opening at the Turner Rise Retail Park in the unit formerly used by Go Outdoors.

The firm already has a shop in Tollgate Retail Park which opened back in 2013, so the new shop will be its second in the town.

The new B&M store in Turner Rise is set to open on Saturday (March 26) at 9am.

It will create more than 69 jobs.

Workers at the shop have chosen the Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity to be highlighted by at the opening.

In addition to opening the store, the charity team will also receive £250 worth of B&M vouchers, which will go towards helping the charity to continue doing the work they do.

The store manager said: “Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity really stood out for us so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done.

"We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work.”

A spokeman for B&M said customers can expect to find an "extensive range" of branded groceries for including food, drink, and pet food.

There will also be a selection of health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games and gifts.

The store manager added: “Our colleagues have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day; we can’t wait to get the doors open next week and show customers their brand new B&M store.”

It was first mooted the brand could move to Turner Rise nine years ago but plans never materialised.

The site already boasts brands such as Costa, Dunelm, Iceland, Pizza Hut, Poundland and Home Bargains.

McDonalds is also set to open a drive-thru restaurant at the site.

The brand was given permission for the new fast food restaurant – the fifth in Colchester – back in June last year.
