A WOMAN remains in custody after a parent was attacked with a knife when picking up her child from a pre-school.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of GBH and possession of an offensive weapon following the incident on Tuesday.

Police scrambled to Penrice Close shortly before 3.30pm as the pre-school went into lockdown after the parent was approached and slashed with a knife.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

District commander for Colchester, chief inspector Rob Huddleston said: “This incident took place in a residential area in Greenstead, and I know it’s likely to cause concern for those living nearby.

“My officers made a quick arrest and at this stage we do not believe there is a risk to the wider public.

“We are at the early stages of our investigation and specialist officers are working to build a picture of what happened yesterday.

“There will continue to be a visible police presence in the area throughout today.

Essex Police has now launched an appeal for witnesses or anyone who has any CCTV, dash cam, or doorbell footage to get in touch.
