A CHARITY furniture shop-come-café is set to close one of its Colchester shops this week.
Emmaus’ New Life shop and café had built a strong following and was succeeding in trade but bosses have now decided to close it and look for another venue.
The initial decision was taken last October when the charity was operating with nine out of the 29 available companion opportunities being taken up.
This was largely due to Governmental schemes generating other opportunities and groups for homeless people so drawing them away from Emmaus.
Darren Scott, manager of the branch, stated the decision to cut its losses stemmed from the lack of workforce at the time.
Despite the detrimental effects the pandemic had on the town centre, the charity was able to turn profits due to successful selling pages on Instagram and Shopify.
Colchester consumers may not have seen the last of the café, however, with plans to reopen one in Stanway or the surrounding area.
In their last week of trade, the charity has decided to donate all proceeds from Colchester sales to Ukraine.
