A HISTORIC park and its attractions were put on lockdown this morning after police officers attended an incident.
Colchester Castle Park, Colchester Castle and Hollytrees Museum were all closed to the public.
The shutdown came as Essex Police officers responded to what has been described as an incident within the park.
As a result, members of the public were urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes in order to access Lower Castle Park.
A spokesman for the Colchester Museums said: "Castle Park, Colchester Castle and Hollytrees Museum are all closed this morning as the police are responding to an incident in the park.
"Please avoid the area and take a different route to use Lower Castle Park. We will update here when the park and museums re-open.
According to a now updated statement from Colchester Museums the site has reopened with Hollytrees Museum welcoming visitors as usual from 10am and Colchester Castle from midday.
UPDATE: Castle Park is now open and Hollytrees Museum will be welcoming visitors as usual from 10am. Colchester Castle will be opening at midday today.https://t.co/AYvqX1Wlx5 https://t.co/Ezg0ic2MSB
