A COUPLE returning from holiday had a surprise when they found a lost ferret hiding in their toilet.

The holiday-makers returned home to Colchester only to find the female ferret hiding in their outside utility room and toilet.

Work is now underway to track down the curious animal’s owner.

RSPCA rescuer Jess Bush said: “The couple had been away on holiday and when they returned they were shocked to find this fluffy ferret hiding out in their outside utility room and loo.

“They explained there was a hole in the wall and it looks as though the ferret had clambered inside to hide.

“I went to collect her and took her to South Essex Wildlife Hospital which has been looking after her.

“She’s very friendly and so I’m sure she’s been a well-cared for pet.

“I’d love to reunite her with her family, so if anyone is missing a female ferret in the local area then we’d urge them to get in touch with us on 0300 123 8018.”

Jess added: “If she isn’t claimed by an owner then the team at SEWH will find her a new home.”
