A SHOPPING centre has kicked off its platinum jubilee celebrations with a series of Union Jack bunting taking pride of place.
Colchester’s Lion Walk shopping centre has installed the decorations stretching through its centre and into Red Lion Yard.
The centre will be running free children’s workshops throughout the Easter holidays and then, in May, an “incredible” replica of the crown jewels from Netflix show The Crown will be on display.
Centre manager Martin Leatherdale, said: “It is great to support what is going to be a series of huge events for Lion Walk, and the wider Colchester borough, to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee.
“We have decorated the shopping centre with hundreds of Union Jack flags to celebrate the extraordinary service and jubilee of Her Majesty.
“Further on in June, for the long bank holiday Jubilee weekend, we will also be hosting a number of street parties, within an authentic and historic setting with live music and costumes.”
Mr Leatherdale added: “It has been sobering to raise the sovereign flag whilst there are barbaric scenes ongoing in Ukraine. For that reason we will use our events to voluntarily raise much needed funds for our friends in Ukraine.”
