COLCHESTER United youngsters Gene Kennedy and Brad Ihionvien have penned new contracts with the club.

The promising pair have both committed their future to the U's.

Colchester's director of football Tony Humes told the U's website: "We've got a couple of really good players in Gene and Brad.

"Supporters will be well aware of Gene's potential talent with him already playing games for the first team and Brad is giving himself every chance of joining him with his progress this season.

"They have both deserved their new contracts, and we hope to see them working hard to achieve their ultimate aim of playing regular first team football."

Gazette:

Kennedy, who has been with Colchester since he was ten years old, made his senior debut for the club last August having featured regularly for them in their pre-season friendlies.

The midfielder made his first-team bow after appearing as a second-half substitute in Colchester's 1-0 defeat at Championship club Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup.

Kennedy, who turns 19 later this month, has made nine first-team appearances for the U's so far this season, including League Two starts against Sutton United and Mansfield Town.

Ihionvien has been scoring regularly for Colchester's under-23 and under-18 sides and has been rewarded for his excellent performances with his first professional contract.

The striker has been combining his football with his studies, as well as playing for both the U's and his college side.

The pair both featured for Colchester's under-23s in their 4-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra in the Professional Development League, on Wednesday night.
