A TEENAGE student who suffered injuries before entering a college to seek urgent help has safely returned home after being treated in hospital.

Essex Police were called to Colchester Sixth Form College, in North Hill, Colchester, shortly before 1pm on Wednesday following reports a girl had been assaulted.

Paramedics also rushed to the scene after the student was reportedly found collapsed in a toilet located inside the college.

Essex Police had initially said the student sustained stab wounds, but the force’s officers have now confirmed they no longer believe that to be the case.

Following the emergency response, the girl was treated for her injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, before being taken to hospital.

The pupil, who entered the college in search of help, was discharged later that evening and is now recovering at home.

A spokesman for Colchester Sixth Form College said: “The victim of an incident came into college for support, and we’re glad this person felt able to approach staff for help.

“This incident occurred well away from college and did not involve other students – at no stage was there any threat to the general safety of our college community.

“We provided support including contacting the emergency services and asking staff to accompany the injured person to hospital.

“A number of students saw paramedics on site, and we are grateful for the support of the College Student Council, staff, and others in reassuring students.

“It would not be appropriate to disclose personal details about the person involved, but we are pleased they were discharged from hospital on the same day.”

Essex Police are now continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesman said: “We have carried out a number of inquires and we can now confirm the girl had not sustained stab injuries.

“She was treated in hospital and has been discharged and our inquiries continue into the incident.
